HISTORY

The Australian Institute of Urban Studies (AIUS) was founded in 1967, through the initiative of the Australian Planning Institute and the Social Science Research Council as an independent non-profit organisation and concerned with all aspects of urban affairs.

The AIUS was initially a national body with State divisons in South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales,  supported by membership subscriptions and by occasional grants from government and other sources.

The AIUS has a significant publishing record. Since 1970, AIUS had completed and published over 100 research reports, numerous collections of seminar and conference papers and a quarterly journal titled, Australian Urban Studies.

In 2013, as several State Divisions came to a close, the AIUS – SA was established as a stand alone entity and is governed by a Board of elected members.
